Three Quartz Reef Wines Recognised in Cameron Douglas MS Top Wines of 2025

Three Quartz Reef Wines Named Among New Zealand’s Top Wines of 2025

We were delighted to see three Quartz Reef wines recognised in Cameron Douglas MS’s Top Wines of 2025.

That is no small thing. With thousands of wines tasted, reviewed, and judged across the year, this list is a serious nod to the wines that stood out for all the right reasons.

To have three wines included is something we are very proud of. It is also a lovely reminder that all the work in the vineyard and winery does, occasionally, lead to moments worth pausing for.

Methode Traditionnelle Blanc de Blancs 2019

Central Otago
95 Points — Outstanding

Our Blanc de Blancs 2019 was recognised as a benchmark expression of New Zealand sparkling wine.

Cameron noted how beautifully the wine opened over several days, and also offered a small but important piece of advice: do not over-chill it. Good sparkling deserves better than being served at fridge-arctic.

The wine shows classic autolytic character, with notes of fresh nuts, fine lees, baked apple, peach, grapefruit, and oatmeal. On the palate, it is dry, saline, mouthwatering, and finely structured, with a persistent mousse and real length.

Methode Traditionnelle Rosé Méthode Traditionnelle NV

Central Otago
94 Points — Excellent

Our Rosé Méthode Traditionnelle NV was also recognised among the year’s top wines.

This is a sparkling rosé with both charm and presence. There is layered autolysis, raspberry, rose, red currant, and plum, with freshness and texture working hand in hand. Crisp, dry, and energetic, it carries itself with ease while still making an impression.

In other words, very much not just a pretty face.

Quartz Reef Single Ferment Pinot Noir 2021

Central Otago
96 Points — Outstanding

The highest-scoring Quartz Reef wine in this year’s selection was our Single Ferment Pinot Noir 2021.

Cameron’s note highlights the wine’s sense of place and season, with berry fruit, savoury spice, earthy mineral notes, cherry, dried plum, raspberry, and bracken all unfolding across the palate.

What stood out most was the texture, with long-chain tannins and a precise acid line giving the wine structure, detail, and length.

A serious Pinot Noir, but not one that feels the need to show off about it.

A Strong Year for Quartz Reef in Central Otago

To have three wines recognised in Cameron Douglas MS’s Top Wines of 2025 is a meaningful moment for us.

These wines reflect what we care most about at Quartz Reef: purity, detail, site, and the distinctive character of Central Otago. They are also a credit to the work of our vineyard and winery teams, who put in the kind of effort that rarely makes it into the glamorous version of wine writing.

We are grateful to Cameron and Janet Douglas for the work they do in recognising excellence across New Zealand wine.
