Bendigo is at the heart of the way we think about Pinot Noir. It is a dry, exposed and demanding place, with strong northern light and soils threaded with quartz. Over time, we have come to understand that its strength lies not only in intensity, but in the tension, structure and energy it can bring to the wine.
Our Pinot Noir is grown entirely at our certified biodynamic estate vineyard in Bendigo. We spend time observing the vineyard, listening to what each season is telling us and making the small decisions that allow the vines to find their natural balance.
Bendigo gives us Pinot Noir with its own architecture. In the winery, we work to keep that intact, the energy, the fine tension and the structure of the tannins, allowing time to bring the wine into balance.
What we look for is Pinot Noir with quiet confidence: understated finesse, finely structured tannins and a sense of energy that carries through the wine. There is depth and presence, but also restraint and a natural ease.
We first planted Pinot Noir in Bendigo in 1998, without knowing exactly what the site would become. What began with curiosity has grown into a long relationship with this remarkable piece of Central Otago, and a deeper belief in the character it gives to Pinot Noir.
