We’ve got news we’re proud to share: Rudi Bauer, founder and winemaker at Quartz Reef has been shortlisted as a finalist for Vigneron of the Year 2026 in The Real Review’s Top Wineries of New Zealand Awards.
Quartz Reef was founded in 1996 with a clear belief: Central Otago has the potential to produce world-class wine when you let place lead. For Rudi, that has always meant doing the quiet parts properly, careful farming, thoughtful picking decisions, and winemaking that supports fruit and site rather than overpowering it.
That philosophy has shaped what Quartz Reef is known for today:
The Vigneron of the Year category recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to New Zealand viticulture and winemaking and being named a finalist places Rudi among some of the most respected names in the country.
The award winners will be announced on 18 May 2026.
