This year, Down to Earth brings together wine lovers and some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading organic wine producers for a celebration of organic and sustainable wine. With more than 70 certified organic wines from 25 New Zealand producers, it’s a wonderful opportunity to taste, discover and connect directly with the people behind the wines.
Down to Earth is a walk-around tasting designed to showcase the diversity and quality of certified organic New Zealand wine. Guests can swirl, smell and taste their way through an impressive selection of wines while meeting passionate organic winegrowers and learning more about how they work with the land.
For Quartz Reef, organic and biodynamic winegrowing has been at the heart of what we do for decades.
Our vineyards in Bendigo, Central Otago, are certified organic and biodynamic. We believe that healthy soils, healthy vines and a thriving vineyard ecosystem provide the foundation for expressive, characterful wines.
At Quartz Reef, our approach begins in the vineyard. Working organically and biodynamically means looking closely at the natural environment and considering the vineyard as a living system.
Our Bendigo vineyard, planted in 1998, sits on the distinctive schist soils of Central Otago. The region’s sunny days, cool nights and dry climate create ideal conditions for producing vibrant, elegant wines with a strong sense of place.
Our wines include Méthode Traditionnelle sparkling wines, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Grüner Veltliner, with our sparkling wines crafted using traditional methods.
For us, organic and biodynamic winegrowing isn't simply a certification. It is a long-term commitment to caring for the vineyard and producing wines that reflect where they come from.
One of the highlights of Down to Earth is the opportunity to meet the producers themselves.
Wine tasting becomes something different when you can talk directly to the people who planted the vines, worked the soils, harvested the grapes and made the wine. It’s a chance to hear the stories behind the bottles and discover the different approaches being taken by organic wine producers across New Zealand.
Alongside the wines, thoughtful finger food and a relaxed atmosphere make Down to Earth a great opportunity to spend an afternoon exploring the world oforganic wine in New Zealand.
