Bendigo Estate Pinot Noir 2013

XXXXX

"Classic"

Designed for cellaring, this emerging Central Otago star is estate-grown on a steep, north-facing, 'seriously warm' site at Bendigo. The 2013 vintage (5*) is deep ruby, savoury and complex. A powerful young wine, it is concentrated, with ripe plum, spice and nutty oak flavours, good tannin support, and obvious potential; open 2017+. Certified biodynamic.

Pinot Noir 2014

XXXXX

"Classic"

A bold, fleshy, generous red. Estate-grown at Bendigo, hand-picked and matured in French oak barriques, the outstanding 2014 vintage (5*) is deep and youthful in colour. Mouthfilling, rich and softly textured, it is a powerful but elegant wine, offering deep plum and spice flavours, complex and savoury. Showing impressive concentration and harmony, it should be long-lived, but it's already delicious.

Methode Traditionnelle Vintage 2010

XXXXX

"Classic"

Top vintages are outstanding, showing great vigour and complexity in a Champagne-like style, intense and highly refined. Currently on sale, the 2010 (5*) is a blend of Chardonnay (93 per cent) and Pinot Noir (7 per cent), estate-grown and hand-picked at Bendigo, in Central Otago, and disgorged after maturing for nearly four years on its yeast lees. Light straw, it is elegant and racy, with intense, citrusy, slightly peachy and nutty flavours, that float very harmoniously to a lively, lasting finish.

The lively, non-vintage wine currently on sale (4.5*) was estate-grown at Bendigo, in Central Otago. Made entirely from Pinot Noir and disgorged after at least two years on its yeast lees, it has an enticing, pale pink hue. A vivacious sparkling with good complexity, it has strawberry and spice flavours, hints of peaches and apricots, and a long, yeasty, finely balanced finish.

Methode Traditionnelle Brut NV

XXXXx

This increasingly Champagne-like, non-vintage bubbly is estate-grown at Bendigo, in Central Otago, and lees-aged for at least two years. The batches vary in their varietal composition, but the release I tasted in mid to late 2015 (4.5*) is a blend of Pinot Noir (52 per cent) and Chardonnay (48 per cent). Pale straw, it is rich and finely balanced, with dryish, lemony, biscuity flavours, fresh acidity and a long, very harmonious finish.

Sparkling Activity

The latest vintage wine from one of Central Otago’s great sparkling producers is another stylish release. Once again there’s an appealing delicacy and purity to its palate with its notes of brioche, mineral and tight line of citrus that would give many a Champagne a run for its money.
