Quartz Reef sparklers are a labour of love for proprietor Rudi Bauer, as the economics of quality methode traditionelle wine hardly make it a big earner.

This NV offers aromas of herbs, vanilla cream, citrus and peach.

A cidery oxidative character will upset technocrats, but it adds complexity and interest that will thrill fans.

The palate is elegant, fine-boned and refreshing.

"Balance" was the word du jour from our judges here, who also noted "lovely, tropical fruit", good phenolic texture", "crisp citrus bite on the finish" and "charming".  Nikolai even felt it had a "mojito note" and commented on the purity and richness of this highly aromatic super southern example.
