The fruit was sourced from the Pisa Range Estate Vineyard, 12 km North of Cromwell, opposite our Bendigo Vineyard, separated by a lake.

The vineyard is planted (1996) with Pinot Noir clones 10/5 and clone 5, and in 1998 planted with Pinot Noir clones 113, 114 & 777. The soil is mainly loam, of very good depth and it is a medium vigour site, with the rows north facing, and a vineyard spacing of 2 x 1.3 metres.

The 1999 Pinot Noir was handpicked on the 30th March, transported in small 10 kilogram picking bins into the winery, with 80% being de stemmed and 20% whole cluster.

The grapes were fermented in 2 tonne fermenters with 5-7 days cold soak. Fermentation peaked at 33 deg Celcius and had a post fermentation maceration between 6-8 days before being directly transferred into 35% new, 35% 1 year old and 30% 3 year old French Oak of mainly Allier and Vosges of medium toast level.

The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in Spring and racked into tank on the 8th April and then egg fined for final settling, and bottled without stabilisation on the 12th April, hence a tartrate deposit is to be expected in the bottle.
